Description

Chocolate Dipped Oranges are a simple yet elegant treat combining the juicy sweetness of fresh oranges with rich, smooth melted chocolate. Perfect as a refreshing snack or a delightful dessert, these slices are lightly coated in dark or milk chocolate and can be enhanced with a sprinkle of sea salt for a sweet and salty flavor twist.

Ingredients

Scale

Oranges

  • 2 large oranges

Chocolate Coating

  • 8 ounces dark chocolate (or milk chocolate, depending on your preference)
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil (optional, for a smoother chocolate coating)
  • Sea salt (optional, for sprinkling)

Instructions

  1. Wash the Oranges: Rinse the oranges under cold water thoroughly and pat them dry with a clean towel to remove any dirt or residue.
  2. Slice the Oranges: Cut the oranges into thick slices approximately 1/2 inch thick. Remove any seeds found in the slices. Alternatively, you can slice the oranges into wedges for smaller bite-sized pieces.
  3. Melt the Chocolate (Double Boiler Method): Fill a saucepan with a few inches of water and bring it to a gentle simmer. Place a heatproof bowl on top of the saucepan without letting it touch the water. Add the dark chocolate and coconut oil (if using) to the bowl. Stir occasionally until the chocolate has melted completely and is smooth.
  4. Melt the Chocolate (Microwave Method): Alternatively, place the chocolate and coconut oil in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 30-second intervals, stirring between each interval, until the chocolate is fully melted and has a smooth consistency.
  5. Dip Each Slice: Hold each orange slice by the edge and dip half of it into the melted chocolate. Let any excess chocolate drip off before placing it down.
  6. Place on Baking Sheet: Lay the chocolate-dipped orange slices on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  7. Add Sea Salt (Optional): Lightly sprinkle a pinch of sea salt over the chocolate-covered part of the oranges before the chocolate sets to enhance the flavor with a sweet and salty contrast.
  8. Refrigerate: Place the baking sheet in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes, or until the chocolate is fully hardened and set on the orange slices.
  9. Serve: Once the chocolate has hardened, remove the slices from the refrigerator and serve immediately. Enjoy this refreshing and decadent treat!

Notes

  • Using coconut oil helps achieve a smoother and shinier chocolate coating but is optional.
  • Dark chocolate provides a richer, less sweet coating, while milk chocolate creates a sweeter treat.
  • Sprinkling sea salt balances the sweetness and adds complexity to the flavor.
  • Ensure oranges are dry before dipping to help chocolate adhere properly.
  • Store leftover chocolate dipped oranges in the refrigerator to keep the chocolate firm.
