Description

This easy-to-make Chocolate Dump Cake combines rich chocolate cake mix with instant pudding for a moist, fudgy texture topped with melted butter and chocolate chips. Perfect for a quick dessert, it’s a no-fuss recipe that requires minimal prep and delivers a decadent treat your family and friends will love.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix (15.25 oz)
  • 1 box instant chocolate pudding mix (3.9 oz)
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Wet Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Other

  • Nonstick cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish thoroughly with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Mix Pudding Base: In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the instant chocolate pudding mix, whole milk, and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  3. Layer Pudding: Pour the prepared pudding mixture evenly into the greased baking dish, spreading it out to form a uniform layer.
  4. Add Cake Mix: Sprinkle the dry chocolate cake mix evenly over the pudding layer, making sure not to stir or mix the layers together.
  5. Top with Butter and Chips: Drizzle the melted unsalted butter evenly over the cake mix layer. Then sprinkle the semi-sweet chocolate chips and chopped walnuts (if using) on top.
  6. Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 40 minutes. The top should be set and a toothpick inserted near the center should come out mostly clean when done.
  7. Cool and Serve: Allow the cake to cool slightly before serving so it firms up a bit and is easier to slice.

Notes

  • Walnuts are optional; you can also substitute with pecans or omit nuts for a nut-free dessert.
  • For extra fudginess, use milk with higher fat content or substitute with half-and-half.
  • This cake is best served warm, possibly with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for added indulgence.
  • Ensure not to stir the layers once assembled; this is what creates the unique texture of the dump cake.
  • Storage: Store leftovers covered tightly in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently before serving.
