Ingredients
Scale
Chicken
- 500g / 1 lb chicken breast, boneless and skinless (2 pieces)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1/4 cup flour
Sauce & Cooking
- 3 1/2 tbsp (50g) unsalted butter (or 2 1/2 tbsp olive oil)
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 1/2 tbsp apple cider vinegar (or white or other clear vinegar)
- 1 tbsp soy sauce, light or all purpose
- 1/3 cup honey (or maple syrup)
Instructions
- Prepare Chicken: Cut the chicken breasts in half horizontally to create 4 steaks. Season each side evenly with salt and pepper.
- Coat with Flour: Place the flour in a shallow dish. Dredge each chicken piece in flour, shaking off any excess to ensure a light coating.
- Melt Butter: Heat most of the butter (reserving about 1 teaspoon) in a large skillet over high heat until melted and hot.
- Cook Chicken: Add the chicken to the skillet and cook for 2 to 3 minutes until the bottom turns golden brown. Flip and cook the other side for 1 minute.
- Adjust Heat: Reduce the heat to medium-high to prevent burning while continuing to cook the chicken.
- Add Garlic and Butter: Push the chicken to one side of the pan. Add the minced garlic and the reserved dab of butter to the empty side of the skillet. Stir the garlic briefly as the butter melts to release aroma.
- Prepare Sauce: Pour in the apple cider vinegar, soy sauce, and honey. Stir or gently shake the pan to combine the sauce ingredients thoroughly.
- Simmer Sauce: Bring the sauce to a simmer and cook for about 1 minute or until it slightly thickens, coating the chicken nicely.
- Coat Chicken & Adjust: Turn the chicken pieces to coat them evenly in the sauce. If the sauce thickens too much, add a splash of water and stir to loosen.
- Serve: Remove the skillet from heat immediately. Plate the chicken and drizzle any remaining sauce from the pan over the top for extra flavor.
Notes
- You can substitute maple syrup for honey for a different but equally delicious sweetness.
- Using olive oil instead of butter gives a lighter, dairy-free option.
- Ensure the chicken is cut evenly for uniform cooking.
- Serve with steamed vegetables or rice to complete the meal.
