Ingredients
Scale
Cheese Taco Shells
- 2 cups Cheddar cheese, shredded
Ground Beef Filling
- 1 pound Ground beef
- 2 tablespoons Homemade Taco Seasoning
- 1/4 cup Water
Toppings (optional)
- Sour cream
- Avocado
- Extra shredded cheese
- Lettuce
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the cheese taco shells.
- Prepare Cheese Shells: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Place 1/4 cup piles of shredded cheddar cheese spaced about 2 inches apart. Press down slightly to form thin, even layers.
- Bake Cheese: Bake in the preheated oven for 5-7 minutes, or until the edges of the cheese turn golden brown and crisp.
- Shape Shells: Remove the baking sheet and allow the cheese to cool for 1-2 minutes until firm but still flexible. Carefully lift each cheese circle and drape it over the handle of a spoon or a similar utensil balanced on two cups to form taco shells.
- Cool Shells: Let the shells cool completely so they harden in the taco shell shape, then gently remove from the utensil.
- Cook Ground Beef: While the cheese shells bake, heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking up with a spatula, until fully browned and cooked through.
- Season Beef: Drain excess grease from the skillet. Add the homemade taco seasoning and water to the beef, stirring to combine thoroughly.
- Simmer Filling: Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer the beef mixture for about 5 minutes or until the water has evaporated and the seasoning has thickened into a flavorful sauce.
- Assemble Tacos: Spoon the seasoned beef into the crispy cheese taco shells. Add your favorite optional toppings, such as sour cream, avocado slices, additional cheese, or shredded lettuce. Serve immediately and enjoy!
Notes
- Use a silicone baking mat or parchment paper to prevent cheese from sticking during baking.
- Be careful when handling hot cheese shells as they can break if bent too soon.
- Customize taco seasonings to your preference or use store-bought low-carb taco seasoning.
- These taco shells are best enjoyed fresh, as they may lose crispiness if stored for long.
- For a dairy-free alternative, consider using a suitable cheese substitute or another keto-friendly shell option.
