Ingredients
Scale
Beef and Aromatics
- 1 lb. lean ground beef
- 4 tsp minced ginger
- 6 cloves garlic, minced
Sauce
- 1/2 cup low sodium soy sauce
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 6 tbsp hoisin sauce
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
Noodles
- 1 12-ounce box linguine noodles
Garnish
- 4 green onions, diced
- Toasted sesame seeds
Instructions
- Brown the Ground Beef: In a medium skillet, cook the ground beef with the minced ginger and garlic over medium heat until the beef is fully browned. Drain any excess fat from the pan to keep the dish lean.
- Prepare Pasta: While the beef is cooking, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the linguine noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- Mix Sauce: In a bowl, combine the low sodium soy sauce, beef broth, brown sugar, hoisin sauce, red pepper flakes, and black pepper. Stir well until the sugar is dissolved and the sauce is well blended.
- Add Sauce to Beef: Pour the prepared sauce mixture into the skillet with the cooked ground beef. Stir well to combine all ingredients and simmer briefly to allow the sauce to thicken slightly and coat the beef evenly.
- Combine Noodles and Sauce: Add the cooked linguine noodles to the skillet with the beef and sauce mixture. Toss everything together over low heat for a minute or two until the noodles absorb some sauce and everything is heated through.
- Serve and Garnish: Plate the noodles topped with the Mongolian beef mixture. Garnish generously with diced green onions and toasted sesame seeds for a fresh and nutty finish. Serve immediately.
Notes
- Lean ground beef is recommended to reduce excess grease, but ground turkey can be a substitute for a lighter version.
- Adjust the red pepper flakes to your preferred spice level.
- For a gluten-free option, substitute linguine with rice noodles or gluten-free pasta.
- Make sure to drain the beef fat well to keep the dish from becoming greasy.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
