Ingredients
Scale
Butter Base
- 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
Batter
- 3/4 cup whole milk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 2 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
Topping
- 1 1/2 cups brown sugar, packed
- 1 1/2 cups hot water
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat & Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Pour the melted butter into a 9×13-inch baking pan and spread it evenly to coat the bottom.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the whole milk, vanilla extract, and sugar until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
- Add Dry Ingredients: Stir in the flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon into the wet mixture just until everything is combined into a batter. Avoid over-mixing.
- Layer Batter: Spoon the batter evenly over the melted butter in the prepared pan without stirring. This layering helps create the cobbler’s signature texture.
- Add Brown Sugar: Sprinkle the packed brown sugar evenly over the top of the batter layer to add sweetness and depth of flavor.
- Pour Hot Water: Gently pour the hot water over the brown sugar and batter layers carefully, but do not stir. This will create a syrupy topping as it bakes.
- Bake: Place the pan in the oven and bake for 30 to 35 minutes. The cobbler should be golden brown on top and mostly set.
- Finish with Topping: While the cobbler is still hot, mix the 1/4 cup sugar with 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon and sprinkle evenly over the surface to add a classic snickerdoodle cinnamon sugar crust.
- Cool & Serve: Let the cobbler cool slightly to allow the syrup to thicken before serving it warm for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
- For an extra cozy touch, serve the cobbler with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
- Ensure the hot water is poured gently to avoid mixing the layers, which is essential for the cobbler’s texture.
- Use a 9×13-inch baking pan to get the correct thickness; smaller or larger pans may affect baking time.
- You can substitute whole milk with 2% milk if preferred, but whole milk provides a richer flavor.
- Allow the cobbler to cool at least 10 minutes before serving to help it set.
