Ingredients
Scale
For the Crostini
- 1 baguette, sliced into 1/2-inch rounds
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the Steak
- 1 lb beef steak (such as ribeye or tenderloin)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tbsp olive oil
For the Horseradish Cream
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 2 tbsp prepared horseradish
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the Crostini: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Arrange the baguette slices evenly on a baking sheet. Brush both sides of each slice with olive oil, then season with salt and pepper to taste. Bake for 8-10 minutes until the slices turn golden and crisp. Remove and set aside to cool completely.
- Cook the Steak: Season the beef steak generously with salt and pepper. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, sear the steak for 3-4 minutes on each side, depending on your preferred doneness level. Remove the steak from heat and let it rest for 5 minutes to retain juices. Slice the steak thinly for topping.
- Make the Horseradish Cream: In a medium bowl, combine the sour cream, prepared horseradish, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, and season with salt and pepper to taste. Stir well until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
- Assemble the Crostini: Spread a generous dollop of horseradish cream on each toasted baguette slice. Place a thin slice of steak atop each one. Optionally, garnish with fresh herbs such as parsley or chives for an added burst of freshness. Serve immediately.
Notes
- For extra flavor, use ribeye steak for its marbling or tenderloin for leaner meat.
- The horseradish cream can be made a few hours ahead and refrigerated to enhance flavors.
- Use fresh baguette slices for best crispiness; stale bread can be refreshed by toasting.
- Adjust horseradish quantity depending on your preference for heat and zestiness.
- Leftover steak slices can be stored and used in salads or sandwiches.
