Description

Steak Crostini with Horseradish Cream is a delicious appetizer featuring crispy toasted baguette slices topped with tender seared steak and a zesty horseradish cream sauce. This recipe is perfect for entertaining, combining savory flavors and a creamy kick in every bite.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Crostini

  • 1 baguette, sliced into 1/2-inch rounds
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Steak

  • 1 lb beef steak (such as ribeye or tenderloin)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

For the Horseradish Cream

  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 tbsp prepared horseradish
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Crostini: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Arrange the baguette slices evenly on a baking sheet. Brush both sides of each slice with olive oil, then season with salt and pepper to taste. Bake for 8-10 minutes until the slices turn golden and crisp. Remove and set aside to cool completely.
  2. Cook the Steak: Season the beef steak generously with salt and pepper. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, sear the steak for 3-4 minutes on each side, depending on your preferred doneness level. Remove the steak from heat and let it rest for 5 minutes to retain juices. Slice the steak thinly for topping.
  3. Make the Horseradish Cream: In a medium bowl, combine the sour cream, prepared horseradish, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, and season with salt and pepper to taste. Stir well until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
  4. Assemble the Crostini: Spread a generous dollop of horseradish cream on each toasted baguette slice. Place a thin slice of steak atop each one. Optionally, garnish with fresh herbs such as parsley or chives for an added burst of freshness. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, use ribeye steak for its marbling or tenderloin for leaner meat.
  • The horseradish cream can be made a few hours ahead and refrigerated to enhance flavors.
  • Use fresh baguette slices for best crispiness; stale bread can be refreshed by toasting.
  • Adjust horseradish quantity depending on your preference for heat and zestiness.
  • Leftover steak slices can be stored and used in salads or sandwiches.
