Ingredients
Scale
Rice and Broth
- 1 cup long-grain white rice
- 2 cups chicken broth
Seasonings and Oil
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
Instructions
- Rinse the rice: Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch and prevent sticking.
- Heat the oil: In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat until shimmering.
- Toast the rice: Add the rinsed rice to the saucepan and sauté for 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently, until it becomes lightly toasted and fragrant.
- Add spices: Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, black pepper, salt, and optional cayenne pepper, ensuring the rice is evenly coated with the spices.
- Add broth and boil: Pour in the chicken broth and increase the heat to bring the mixture to a rolling boil.
- Simmer: Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan with a lid, and simmer for 18-20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and has absorbed all the liquid.
- Rest and fluff: Remove the saucepan from heat and let it sit covered for 5 minutes to finish steaming. Then, fluff the rice gently with a fork before serving.
Notes
- Rinsing the rice helps achieve a fluffier texture by removing excess starch.
- Adjust the cayenne pepper to your preferred spice level or omit for a milder taste.
- Use low-sodium chicken broth if you wish to control the salt content.
- For added flavor, you can stir in fresh chopped parsley or green onions before serving.
- Leftover rice can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
