Ingredients
Scale
Pasta
- 1 pound spaghetti noodles
- 1 tablespoon salt (for pasta water)
Meat Sauce
- 1 pound ground beef
- 0.5 pound Italian sausage
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 24 oz marinara sauce
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
Alfredo Mixture
- 15 oz Alfredo sauce
- 0.5 cup sour cream
- 0.5 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
Toppings/Garnish
- 2 to 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- Fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
Instructions
- Cook the pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook until al dente. Drain the pasta and reserve 1/4 cup of the pasta cooking water for later use.
- Brown the meats: In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef and Italian sausage until fully cooked, breaking up the meat as it cooks. Drain any excess fat from the skillet.
- Cook the aromatics: Add the finely chopped onion to the skillet and cook for 2 to 3 minutes until softened. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Simmer the meat sauce: Pour in the marinara sauce, add Italian seasoning, and season with salt and pepper to taste. Let the sauce simmer gently for 5 to 7 minutes to meld the flavors.
- Prepare Alfredo pasta mixture: In a separate bowl, combine the Alfredo sauce, sour cream, grated Parmesan cheese, and garlic powder. Add the cooked spaghetti to this mixture and toss well. If the sauce is too thick, add some reserved pasta water a little at a time to loosen it.
- Preheat the oven and prepare dish: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish to prevent sticking.
- Assemble first meat sauce layer: Spread a layer of the cooked meat sauce evenly on the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
- Add Alfredo spaghetti layer: Spoon the Alfredo pasta mixture over the meat sauce layer and spread evenly.
- Top with remaining meat sauce and cheese: Pour the remaining meat sauce over the Alfredo pasta layer. Top generously with shredded mozzarella cheese.
- Bake the casserole: Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 10 to 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
- Rest and garnish: Allow the baked spaghetti to rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired.
Notes
- Reserve some pasta water when draining spaghetti; it helps loosen the Alfredo sauce if it seems too thick.
- You can substitute half-and-half or heavy cream for the sour cream for a richer sauce.
- To make the meat sauce spicier, add crushed red pepper flakes while simmering.
- For a vegetarian version, substitute meats with sautéed mushrooms and omit sausages.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
