Ingredients
Scale
Milk Base
- 2 cups whole milk or unsweetened almond, coconut, or oat milk
Spices
- 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger or 1-inch fresh ginger, peeled and sliced
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
- Pinch of ground cardamom
Sweetener and Fats
- 1-2 teaspoons honey or maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon coconut oil or ghee
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Combine Base Ingredients: In a small saucepan, combine the milk with ground turmeric, ground ginger or fresh ginger slices, cinnamon, black pepper, and cardamom. Whisk thoroughly to blend all spices evenly and avoid clumping.
- Heat the Mixture: Place the saucepan on medium-low heat and warm gently. Stir occasionally and heat until the mixture starts to steam but does not boil, about 5-7 minutes, to allow the spices to infuse fully.
- Add Sweetener and Fats: Remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in honey or maple syrup, coconut oil or ghee, and vanilla extract. Whisk vigorously until the mixture is smooth and the fats are fully emulsified.
- Strain and Serve: If you used fresh ginger, pour the golden milk through a fine mesh sieve to strain out the solids. Divide the beverage evenly between two mugs and serve immediately while warm for best flavor and comfort.
Notes
- Use any milk of your choice including dairy or plant-based alternatives like almond, coconut, or oat milk.
- Adjust the amount of sweetener to your taste preference.
- Do not boil the milk as it can alter the flavor and nutrients of the spices.
- Fresh ginger adds a more vibrant and zesty flavor than ground ginger but requires straining.
- For a vegan version, use plant-based milk, maple syrup, and coconut oil instead of honey and ghee.
